President's Report
by Kasara Williams, CPM®

Summer is here! I hope you have been enjoying the weather, spending time with family and friends, and getting some well-deserved rest.
In April, I had the pleasure of attending the IREM Northeast Regional meeting at the Gaylord in National Harbor with fellow chapter leaders. We learned about the formation of a Tech Advisory Board, an IREM website redesign, and our very own Charlotte Wilson and Shaniece Stanford were panelists at a session about talent management.
The IREM Gala was a success again this year! Plans are already underway for next year and there will be some changes. The venue will be the Gaylord in National Harbor. The date will be Saturday, May 16, 2020. Mark your calendars now so you don’t miss this exciting event!
Since we are halfway through the year, I will be working with committee chairs and other members of chapter leadership to check in on our goals. We have already seen success this year with our RESTART program graduation during the June GMM. You can read more about this program below.
Please join us for our Summer Party on July 25 at The Acadia Metropolitan Park. We will be supporting Semper K9 and playing with their dogs while enjoying food and drinks. I look forward to seeing you there!
REstart
by Stacy Lautar, CPM® & Ebony Landon, CPM®

REstart was formed to honor the memory of Bobby Jo Lewis, the sister of IREM member Linda Lewis, who lost her life in a tragic domestic violence situation. REstart transforms the lives of individuals who find themselves in unfortunate situation of domestic violence, poverty and substance abuse resulting in homeless by providing them a skills-based program in Residential Property Management, providing a “second chances” in life . . . in many cases, the chance to provide their family a decent home that meets their needs for shelter and a chance to establish a career that builds a stable future for the family.
For the last three years, Chapter 77 has worked to bring REstart to our local area. Headed by Past President Stacy Lautar, the REstart committee saw its vision turned into reality on June 12th, when 11 participants graduated from the program during our June general membership meeting. After a 6-week classroom program about residential management, along with a variety of other courses in time management, business etiquette and professional presence, these newly qualified professionals will each begin a fully paid summer internship with a local management company.
One of the highlights of the program was Red Carpet Day, on June 7th, when the recent graduates of the REstart program took a little time away from interviewing, job shadowing and learning and spent some time on inner reflection and pampering. View pictures and read all about Red Carpet Day here!

June General Membership Meeting
Our June dinner meeting at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Tysons was an event filled evening. We heard from speaker Kristin Reese, VP of talent and culture at The Bozzuto Group, about how to put your best foot forward in an interview, ways to leverage social media for networking and personal branding, and determining whether a company or a candidate is a good fit. Regional Vice President Toni Harris presented completion certificates to the recent graduates of our REstart program and we were able to get a glimpse into their journey by watching a video documenting their progress. We also collected some great clothing for Women Giving Back. A special thanks to everyone who donated!
Congratulations to our installees of the evening:
- Shaniece Sanford, CPM®, Quadrangle Development Company
- Jennifer Anderson, CPM®, Cushman & Wakefield
- Jacqueline DeMenezes, ARM®, Grady Management
- Syrita Hawkins, ARM®, Divaris Property Management

Candidate Event

Just before our June membership dinner, the chapter held its annual event geared just for Candidates, ARM and Associate members. This year we presented a panel discussion entitled The Art of the Pitch. The panel featured career CPM experts alongside newly credentialed professionals in the commercial and residential fields discussing how to leverage IREM credentials to pitch and win new business. More than 50 people packed the room for this hour-long free event.

IREM Gala
by Erin Grover

The 14th Annual IREM Gala held on Friday, May 10th was a huge success! It was a beautiful evening with delectable food, tasty beverages, and enjoyable company. There were over 300 guests in attendance, and the night was danced away with the always talented Millennium Band.
Special Love was presented with an $80,000 check with more to come. Thank you to all the attendees, it couldn’t have been possible without the contributions from each and every one of you.
2020 planning is already underway. Stay tuned!

April General Membership Meeting

A truly engaging evening took place at Bobby McKey’s Dueling Piano Bar in April! We heard from renowned keynote speaker Janine Driver about decoding body language and everyone seemed to learned something new about how to read another person’s body language. Even better was the opportunity to try out the new learned secrets while networking with friends in our sister chapters 8 & 92!

Community Action

On Wednesday, April 18, the Community Action committee held its first event of the year giving back to The Patrick Henry Shelter House in Falls Church, VA. The Patrick Henry Shelter House provides shelter for large families in need. IREM members assisted the shelter with cleaning and reorganizing the family playroom and collecting trash and weeding their yard. It was hard work, but we all felt great satisfaction when we finished with spring-cleaning. Thank you to all who participated in our event!

Diversity
by Kenicia Thomas

IREM National is a Silver Level sponsor of REAP (Real Estate Associate Program). The Diversity Committee attended the 2019 REAP Trade Association Night on April 18th. Our own Kenicia Thomas presented the benefits of being an IREM Chapter 77 member and how to earn your CPM or ARM designation.
In addition, our Chapter President, Kasara Williams, attended the 2019 REAP Graduation in May.
