President's Report
by Kasara Smith, CPM®
If you can believe it, there is only one more quarter left in 2019! I am sure many of you are already in the middle of budget season and re-forecasts. Let’s get you up to speed with our chapter before you buckle down!
From September 23th -26th, chapter leadership was in San Francisco for the IREM® Global Summit. I was honored to share our chapter’s successful launch of the REstart program which was well-received. On a higher level, IREM’s annual regional meetings have been changed to leadership meetings in Chicago. In an effort to accurately reflect the significance of IREM in the industry, we are now referring to IREM as an institute rather than an association. The updated experience requirements for ACoM® & ARM® designations now are 15 units rental multifamily and 10,000 square feet of non-residential property. This is a result of the rise of multi-use properties and demonstrates IREM’s commitment to adjusting to the market.
Finally, the 2020 Executive Council slate of officers was elected at the September general membership meeting. The full slate appears below in this issue. I hope to see everyone at the Mega Meeting on October 23rd!
2019 Global Summit
IREM 77 Red, White and Bluau
by Charlotte Wilson, CPM®
IREM® Northern Virginia partnered with Semper K9 on July 25th to hold the 4th annual Red, White, and Bluau. Combat veteran-founded and operated since 2014, Semper K9’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for wounded, critically ill, and injured members of the US Armed Forces and their families by providing them with assistance dogs. These dogs are rescued or donated and are trained by Semper K9 free of charge to veterans.
The event was a huge success! Our 111 attendees were entertained by Andrew O’Day’s acoustic set, a Caribbean menu, whiskey tasting, and a donut wall, all while taking part in our annual basket raffle. Thanks to all of your generosity, we were able to break previous records and presented Semper K9 with a donation of $4,000!
Words cannot express our gratitude to everyone who took part. A special thank you goes out to our sponsors and donors, as well as Kettler for allowing us to use their beautiful space. We hope to see you all next summer!

IREM's 30 Under 30
Each year IREM celebrates 30 under 30 and in 2019 they are proving that the next generation of real estate management professionals are ready to lead and make a difference for their employers and clients, their residents and tenants, and their communities.
One of our very own IREM® Northern Virgnia Chapter Associate Members, Larissa Laiti, earned this elite status. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Larissa joined Kettler’s Manager in Development Program and has continued to grow within the company ever since. She is a 2018 winner of Delta Associates’ award for Best Adaptive Reuse Lease-Up Community for her work at Legacy West End.
Congratulations Larissa!
September General Membership Meeting
Our September 12th luncheon at the Westin Gateway Arlington included a very informative presentation on the impact of Amazon in our area by Jeannette Chapman of the Stephen Fuller Institute, and the installation of 22 new members!

IREM Northern Virginia Chapter Loves Referrals
Do you know someone in your company or on your team who has expressed an interest in earning an IREM® designation?? Or maybe someone who is simply interested in learning more about IREM®?
If so, there is a super easy way to refer them to the chapter’s member services committee.
On the opening page of the IREM77.org website, the second button under the Quick Links is labeled “Add a Prospect.” Clicking that link opens a form that allows you to quickly enter the prospect's name and contact information. It’s that simple! Your referral has been made!
We invite you to take a moment while you are thinking about it and refer a friend today!
Job Placement
If you are looking to fill a position, please email incoming job placement guru Stacey Saul ([email protected]) the job description, location, and specify where applicants should send their resume. If you are looking for a new position, please check the Career Center for opportunities. You can also email your resume to Stacey since we maintain a job seeker database. Any questions? Shoot Stacey an email!
